Track Name: Carnage and Blood
actors seem to love to act out violent acts
almost as much as viewers love to view
the carnage and the blood

but often no one gets outraged or even sheds a tear
for people in a world where life's a synonym for fear

so the last two months i watched too much tv
with the thought i could escape all of this shit
but all it did was alienate and make me wanna masturbate
and I realized I had to draw the line and quit

and there are reporters getting silenced by police
for covering the stories of people who occupy the streets
and the naked mountains signify the scars upon the organs of the earth
but naked mountains will never win
the ratings game
against a
cute little white baby's birth

no i am not a preacher i do not claim to understand the truth
that is why i am not on the air
or hold a professors chair
or sit in a radio announcers booth

no i am just a person who has a strong compulsion
to write and share their songs with the world
in the hopes someone will listen
and feel a little less alone

in the hopes someone will listen
and feel a little less alone
Track Name: Look Back
will you build another barrier
to keep yourself in place?
will you keep questioning and questioning
decisions never made?
or will you rise above those nagging fears
quicken up your pace?
embrace the pain
embrace the tears
rip the reigns off your back
run free my friend
you never have to
you never have to
you never have to

look back, look back

so if you leave and can't say goodbye
i'll understand your reasons why
sometimes to leave it has to be a quiet action
or in our case it will be loud and angry
and a total fucking mess
and we'll both just have to soldier on
and do our fucking best not to

look back, look back
look back, look back

so tomorrow morning when you wake up
burnt out and alone
you'll feel depressed
and hit your pipe
and do shit on your phone
but hopefully your happy
where ever you may be
and some day you'll return again
with stories to tell me
but actually i hope you're sad
at least sadder than me
because it's easier when you're not my friend
to be your enemy; not to

look back, look back
look back, look back

will you build another barrier
to keep yourself in place?
will you keep questioning and questioning
decisions never made?
or will you rise above those nagging fears
quicken up your pace?
embrace the pain
embrace the tears
rip the reigns off your back
run free my friend
you never have to
you never have to

look back
Track Name: The Road is The Tempest
wait calmly dear, wait calmly dear
we'll make it home in time
there's no need to fret
we'll just get wet
the torrents won't be letting up today

and just a word of advice
if your thoughts start to stray
don't let your mind get swallowed up
in the tempest

because it'd be too heavy, too heavy, too heavy to bear
to stare at this shovel, this grave and this grief
so hold on tight to my palm
move your feet to the pulse
have your eyes up, attentive and focused
on the road

for the trick of the trade
is to not let oneself be whisked away
to the mirage in the snow blind of
a heaven in death

wait calmly dear, wait calmly dear
we'll make it home in time
there's no need to fret
we'll just get wet
the torrents won't be letting up today
Track Name: Boredom
how convenient is boredom?
you have to ask yourself everyday
how convenient is an attitude of
pushing people away?
pushing people away?

how convenient is silence?
you have ask yourself, ask out loud
how convenient is just a little confidence?
it can be so easy to be proud, to be proud

how convenient is boredom?
you have to ask yourself everyday
and how convenient is an attitude of
pushing people away?
pushing people away?
Track Name: Forge Ahead
i am angry, agitated, i want to rip off my flesh
lie down in my misery sleep till my death
but your breath on my neck
your leg folded on my leg
gives me courage
to fight for better days

we forge ahead
we breath anew
we stand together
hand in hand
you and me
me and you

we'll bring power
we'll bring our lives

i dream of snow white moss on birchbark in june
entranced by the flames i sing to the moon
i sing of towns in pain and their murdered youth
who face armored troops to uncover the truth

we forge ahead
we breath anew
we stand together
hand in hand
you and me
me and you

we'll bring power
we'll bring our lives

we hear the sirens as we doze off at night
and know in the morning everything is not right
because cameras can't capture every victim of the state
every heart broken family who has to wait
to learn sorry circumstances of their son or daughters fate

we forge ahead
we breath anew
we stand together
hand in hand
you and me
me and you

we'll bring power, we'll bring our lives
we'll bring power, we'll bring our lives
Track Name: Communal Traits
i like to go out to eat with good company
we share our dreams, we talk with heat
about future tales and our ancient hearts
in these restaurants that stay open all night
that stay open into the sunlight

we have our communal plates
and we have our communal traits
and we have some altered moods
when we are in such altered states
and we have our heated songs
and we have some heated debates
but most of all we have each other
to help us explore the things we have yet to investigate

i hate when seats are open it makes so worried
my adventurous friends they're out to the seas
where could they be?
but I know they'll miss me
and I hope that they're happy, so happy
and their place at the table
it'll always be there it will never disappear
it will always, always be here

we have our communal plates
and we have our communal traits
and we have some altered moods
when we are in such altered states
and we have our heated songs
and we have some heated debates
but most of all we have each other
to help us explore the things we have yet to investigate
Track Name: Guest House
the bodies at rest look so queer on the floor
they pass through my door weary and worn
a dignified scent spills from their pores
and into the quarters i call my home
and I am not their friends, I am not their lovers
I am just a man who has couches a few covers

the price of a night in my living room
is a story or two a little bit of your truth

of gods and of drugs and of gardens that wither and sprung

of walking ten miles to sing folk songs
in the church basements of rural Massachusetts
of ripping rock'n'roll two hundred fifty nights a year
of speaking from your soul about the issues
so dear to you

the mud on your boots and the gales that you weathered
you know I believe bruises lay bare worlds of another

it's from here we depart with minds intent to discover
lives littered with vigor and filtered through songs

of gods and of drugs and of gardens that wither and sprung

of walking ten miles to sing folk songs
in the church basements of rural Massachusetts
of ripping rock'n'roll two hundred fifty nights a year
of speaking from your soul about the issues
so dear to you
Track Name: A Personal Ad
at night i imagine a world where you whisper to me, “dear...”
i feel the little hairs of your cheek as you make the little hairs in my ear
vibrate with the sound of your voice
you tell me about a dream you have for us
you say,

“we'll live in a cottage near a thin tributary of the Mississippi River
we'll have a garden of sweet carrots and age appropriate jobs
we'll no longer think so hard on the minutes of the day
on our little porch you would run your fingers through my hair
i'd turn around and kiss you with honest lips
we wouldn't need too many words,”

sometimes my imagination runs in this direction as i sit alone at night
Track Name: A Conversation Old and Wide
i have been leaving my friends to the cities
over and over and over
i have not returned home for more than three sunrises

and i feel your rhythms as they play in my headphones
over and over and over
as work progresses in the sunset fields
in the sunset fields
in the sun

and i swear, i swear, i swear
i'll be home for the winter
in our frozen poses we'll be together once again

yeah i seem to forget how fast these days turn
over and over and over
we live what we learn each pace is a lesson, a lesson, a lesson

and at that point our paths converge
over and over and over
we will cross that iron pellet path under the pepper sky

and i swear, i swear, i swear
i'll be home for the winter
in our frozen poses we'll be together once again

and our conversation will move like the Mississippi River
old and wide
the depths never deciphered
the questions littering the shores
so much to remember in the time etched on these banks

i know i know this stone
i know i know this place
despite the storms the soul i know escapes
through cracks in it's face

over and over and over
Track Name: Bastard of the Country
i was born in the swelter of a summer to a home
in a row of houses made of bricks
i pounded the pavement through projects and playgrounds
as a kid it took twice the steps

where fire hydrants flowed like little rivers
and children ran barefoot on those asphalt streets
oh I wish I had more memories of
our life in south Philadelphia

then we moved to the land of 10,000 lakes
leaving that east coast behind
for a quieter life in a less polluted city
with a backyard not made of concrete

and around my twelfth birthday July 10th ninety-nine
i started playing a little Yamaha guitar
it sat next to my desk until just the other day
whenever I needed to yell or scream I'd pick it up and play

i am not a son of the country
i am one of the bastards of it's labors and it's loves
having walked through
some cold winds on
frozen fields with a few close friends

i am not the spawn of the cowgirl
who met her cowboy and fell in love
no I'm a steel string pickin' city slicker
with a hide that keeps growin' thicker
happy to roll out of bed with the sun on the rise
happy to roll out of bed with the sun on the rise

then I moved to southern Wisconsin and then northern Illinois
and I worked for a lady named Andy and I played with a dog named Boy
now I hope when I get older I look at the sky above
my knees buckle I fall over face down in the mud
with my dirty knees
and some muddy boots
i'll have shit caked onto my hands in that hot, hot sun

i will die a son of the country
one of the bastards of it's labors and it's loves
having walked through
some cold winds on
frozen fields with a few close friends
i am not the spawn of the cowgirl
who met her cowboy and fell in love
no i'm a steel string pickin' city slicker
with a hide that keeps growin' thicker
happy to roll out of bed with the sun on the rise
happy to roll out of bed with the sun on the rise
happy to roll out of bed with the sun on the rise
